Livery Guide for LNER

Information provided on the liveries and dates of prototype (the full-size) locomotives, coaches and freight vehicles has been obtained from a wide range of published sources and is provided here in good faith. Fox Transfers cannot accept liability for any errors in and/or omissions from this information and subsequent issues which may be caused.

Before ordering your transfers please check with illustrations of your selected prototype locomotive and with the various sizes, styles and colourways of lettering and numbering that we offer. We cannot guarantee that we have information relating to the above parameters for every locomotive at every stage of its life.

This livery guide gives transfer sheet references for the liveries/classes listed below for LNER.

London & North Eastern Railway 1923-1948

Lettering and Numbering reference FRH4301 plain yellow loco lettering and numbering. (Later style : appropriate for the pre-war, wartime and post-war periods.)
Lettering and Numbering reference FRH4301/5 yellow - (These sheets may be used for locos in ex-works photographic grey and/or certain green liveried applications, but do not appear to have been in general use)
Lettering and Numbering reference FRH4301/10 white - (These sheets may be used for locos in ex-works photographic grey and/or certain green liveried applications, but do not appear to have been in general use).

BLACK LIVERIES - Generally (but not exclusively) the colouring for these locos/tenders would have been Yellow faced red and brown shadows with white highlights

GREEN LIVERIES - Generally (but not exclusively) the colouring for these locos/tenders would have been Gold faced red and black shadows with white highlights

*SMALLER EARLIER SIZE - These transfers (which include &s) were designed for liveries from 1923 until the early 30s to enable L & NER to be added to tenders and tanksides. They were superceded by the larger, later size to show LNER. Wartime repainting involved the deletion of L and R.
