Private Owner Freight - This Shell-BP livery sheet permits completion of one Class B (dark-bodied) four-wheel tank wagons in the old boldly-lettered style prior to the introduction of the more coloured logos. Complete with vehicle numbering, white 'fast traffic' stars (12mm wide) and lots of small graphic details. SHELL/BP lettering 12mm high.
According to the book 'British Railway Goods Wagons in Colour' by Robert Hendry, the CC label stands for Commuted Shunting and Siding Rent Charge Scheme and was (much more rarely, it seems) accompanied by a yellow star which stood for
Commuted Empty Haulage Scheme.
These agreements apparently relieved the tank vehicle owners of small, repetitive but vexatious routine charges for shunting, siding standage and empty haulage after payment of a lump sum to cover these. From the relative paucity of illustrations available, it was not a scheme which was used universally.
As ever, the modeller will need to check illustrations of the appropriate vehicle to ensure use and/or positioning (in this case usually at the left-hand end of each side).
