BR British Railways Original British Railways Lettering, LNER London & North Eastern Railway style, to match 3 shades of BR cabside numbering - 8 inch prototype size. 2 pairs of each (approx 42.5mm wide x 2.75mm high).
For a period of two years or so following Nationalisation of Britain's railway system on 1 January 1948, many tender and tank locos carried the interim markings of ownership provided on this sheet whilst a 'final' design was decided upon. The lettering style, in Eric Gill's famous 'Gill Sans' typeface, albeit hand-painted, was inherited from the LNER which had been using this face for over a decade. Our transfers provide lettering in three shades - cream, off white and white - to match our cabside numbering available on sheets FRH4004/8, FRH4008/8 and FRH4024/8 respectively.
